DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least 10 policemen were martyred and six others injured when a police station in Tehsil Daraban of DI Khan district came under a terrorist attack in the wee hours on Monday.
According to police, terrorists – armed with heavy weapons – attacked Chaudhwan Police Station at around 3am. They said the police station was attacked from all sides with grenades and gunfire. The police force did retaliate but the terrorists managed to escape.
The injured were shifted to DHQ Hospital, the police added. The forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. The quick response force also reached the scene with additional force, according to the police.
Meanwhile, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar strongly condemned the DI Khan terrorist attack on the police station in Dera Ismail Khan.
The prime minister prayed to Allah Almighty for elevation of ranks of the martyred police personnel in paradise and also expressed his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved families, the official news agency reported.
PM Kakar paid tribute to the police personnel for bravely fighting the terrorists. He also directed the concerned authorities to provide all possible medical aid to those injured in the attack.
“Cowardly acts of terrorists will always fail to destroy our resolve to maintain law and order,” he said, adding that the entire nation stood with the police and security forces and salutes the martyrs.
Caretaker Interior Minister Dr Gohar Ejaz also strongly condemned the DI Khan terrorist attack.
In his message, the interior minister expressed deep sorrow and regret over the martyrdom of the 10 police personnel in the attack.
The brave children of the nation laid down their lives for the safety of the nation, said the minister, adding that the entire nation is presenting salutes to the martyrs and praying for their high status.
He said that the government stands with the families of martyrs and sharing their grief with them.
Praying for the recovery of the six youths injured in the attack, Dr Gohar Ijaz said that the police have rendered immeasurable sacrifices in the war against terrorism.
He said that the terrorists who attack security forces and civilians do not deserve any concession and the whole nation is united in the fight against terrorism. “Insha Allah this evil will be rooted out,” he said.
Caretaker Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi also strongly condemned the DI Khan terrorist attack.
In a statement, the caretaker minister expressed sorrow over the martyrdom of the 10 police personnel in the terrorist incident and condoled with the bereaved families of the martyrs.
Saluting the bravery of soldiers who laid down their lives for the safety of the nation, Solangi said terrorists were enemies of peace and stability in the country.
“Cowardly acts of terrorism cannot dampen the spirits of the nation to root out this scourge from the soil of Pakistan,” Solangi remarked. “The entire nation stood by the police and security forces to end terrorism,” he added.
“Any attempt to harm national security will be dealt with iron hands,” he said.
The minister of information prayed for the speedy recovery of the personnel injured in the terrorist incident.
