11 killed, 13 injured in G-B’s Astore avalanche

Astoor: 10 people died due to an avalanche in Astoor area of ​​Gilgit-Baltistan, out of which the bodies of 8 have been recovered.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority issued a detailed report of the incident, according to which the avalanche occurred at 4:00 p.m. when the Gujjar community was coming from Kashmir towards Astor.

According to the report, 11 people were killed and 13 people were injured in the incident. The bodies of 8 of the dead have been recovered while the search for the rest is ongoing. The condition of 12 of the injured is critical. The district quarter hospital has been shifted to Astor while emergency has been imposed in the hospitals of Astor and Skardu.

According to the report, the helicopter service of FCNA has been obtained for the rescue operation, the rescue operation from the helicopter could not be started due to bad weather.

Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid has expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives due to the avalanche and directed to provide all possible help to the affected people.
