271 Parliamentarians suspended for not submitting returns

Islamabad: The Election Commission has suspended the membership of 271 Members of Parliament for not submitting returns.

According to Election Commission sources, 21 members of the Senate and 136 members of the National Assembly have been suspended for not submitting the details of their annual returns.

Besides, 48 ​​members of Sindh Assembly, 54 members of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and 12 members of Balochistan Assembly have been suspended. It has been reported that the Senate membership of Shaukat Tareen, Abdul Ghafoor Hydari, Ahmed Khan, Azam Swati, Sania Nishtar, and Anwarul Haq Kakar has also been suspended, while Ahsan Iqbal, Taj Haider, Fawad Chaudhary, Murad Saeed, Zartaj Gul, Tariq Bashir Cheema have also been suspended. Naveed Qamar, Asad Umar and Umar Ayub are also among the suspended members.

Apart from them, among the suspended members of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser, Noor Alam Khan, Shehryar Afridi, Noorul Haq Qadri, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Khawaja Asif, Mohsin Ranjha, Fahmida Mirza, Ali Zaidi, Shafqat Mehmood, Kanwal Shuzaf and Andalib Abbas are included.

According to the Election Commission, the suspended members will not be able to participate in the meetings of the National and Provincial Assembly and the Senate. Besides, the suspended members cannot participate in the legislation including the vote of confidence.

After the membership suspension, the Election Commission has sent the list of suspended members to the Speakers of the National and Provincial Assemblies and the Chairman of the Senate.
