28 Injured during protest over alleged rape of Lahore college girl

Lahore: At least 28 people injured, including 24 students and 4 police officers, after clashes erupted between the students and police during a protest held against the alleged rape of a college girl in Lahore.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the injured were provided first aid at the scene. The protest escalated after reports of the alleged rape of a college girl news went viral on social media, sparking outrage among the student body.

Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran addressed a press conference, stating that an investigation into the incident was ongoing. “We are thoroughly investigating the matter,” DIG Kamran said, adding that no formal report of the alleged rape had been filed by the victim or her family.

“We cannot solely rely on social media reports, as they often contain unverified information,” the DIG remarked. He also mentioned that, despite the widespread circulation of the incident online, neither the police nor the college administration had been informed officially.

A spokesperson for the DIG confirmed that the security guard had been taken into police custody and that the investigation was underway. “So far, neither the victim nor her family has come forward, and we urge anyone with information to contact the relevant authorities,” the spokesperson added.
