Jhelum witnessed the next phase of Punjab’s Green Tractor Scheme as 39 local farmers received subsidised tractors under the provincial government’s initiative to promote mechanised farming. The beneficiaries included 10 farmers each from Jhelum and Dina, and 19 from Sohawa.
Each tractor came with a subsidy of Rs1 million — one of the largest direct support measures for small farmers in the district. Officials said the scheme is part of a wider e-mechanisation programme aimed at improving access to modern machinery, enhancing crop yields, reducing residue burning and helping limit winter smog across Punjab.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani highlighted the growing impact of modern farming tools such as super seeders, balers and Kubota equipment. He said these technologies are beginning to shift local farming practices toward cleaner and more efficient methods.

Kayani also reviewed ongoing development projects in the district, noting upgrades including the Lilla–Jhelum Road, new facilities at DHQ Jhelum, a THQ hospital in Dina and planned road links to the Lahore–Sialkot Motorway. He added that both federal and provincial governments are examining longstanding requests to extend gas supply to Dina and Sohawa.
Provincial authorities said the Green Tractor Scheme is among Punjab’s flagship agricultural programmes this year. By reducing machinery costs and modernising farming in high-yield districts, the government aims to strengthen rural livelihoods, boost export potential and support the province’s industrial output.
