700 students take part in 6th International Loving Peace Art Competition

BOGOTA: The International Women’s Peace Group Global Region 2 (IWPG Global 2) held an exhibition of award-winning works along with the 6th International Loving Peace Art Competition on May 10 at the Carlos Pizarro Leon Gomez School in Colombia, a partner country.

About 700 students participated in the competition through the cooperation of Nubia Principal Stella Rancheros Roldan, Vice Principal Nelson Owaldo Lara Marti and General Manager Monica Chieos Beitia. The exhibition, held in the school library, was attended by about 1,200 students as well as school officials.

The International Loving Peace Art Competition aims to spread the need for an end to global war and the value of a culture of peace among children and youth who will become the leading figures of the future, and to deliver a message of peace through children and youth’s drawings about the future world of peace.

It is held every year in major cities in Korea and overseas. The theme of this competition is ‘A heart of peace conveyed to friends suffering from war’.

Nubia Principal Stella Rancheros Roldan said, “The time to think about peace through the drawing contest was very valuable, and the purpose of the event was to instill in children the importance of peace. It was a great event.”

David (15 years old), who participated in the contest, said, “In this drawing contest, I drew a picture that conveyed the spirit of peace, depicting a woman holding a dove, which symbolises peace.”

Many schools in Bogota plan to hold a drawing contest and use the exhibition to raise awareness of the importance of peace and expand the culture of peace in Colombia.

The first place winners’ works of this Colombian competition will be mailed to Korea, where the IWPG headquarters is located, for final review. The final award ceremony will be held in November, and the grand prize winner will receive a prize money of 1 million won and a trophy. The winning works selected in the finals will also be produced into a catalog (collection of winning works).

IWPG is an international women’s peace organisation registered as an NGO with special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and with the Department of Global Communications (DGC).
