Eid ul Adha in Pakistan will celebrate on June 17, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Friday after sighting the Zil Hajj moon.
The announcement was made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, who presided over the moon sighting session. The session included members from both central and zonal committees, and representatives from SUPARCO, the Met Office, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Sub-committees in Lahore, Peshawar, Islamabad and other cities also gathered in their respective areas to collect testimonies. The zonal committees in Peshawar and Quetta confirmed the crescent’s sighting in their regions.
Eid ul Adha, which falls on the tenth day of Zil Hajj, also marks the annual Hajj pilgrimage. Muslims across Pakistan are expected to celebrate the occasion on June 17. The moon sighting today follows the lunar month commencement observed by Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries on June 6.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz noted that the Zil Hajj new moon was born on Thursday evening, making it highly likely for the crescent to be visible this evening.
In anticipation of Eid ul Adha in Pakistan, cattle markets have been set up in various areas, allowing people to purchase cows, goats, sheep, or camels for the traditional sacrifice.
