Security Forces Thwart Terrorist Attack on Cantt Board Bannu

Peshawar: Security forces successfully foiled a terrorist attempt to attack the Cantonment Board Bannu (CBB) in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, early Monday morning, sources informed.

According to those familiar with the incident, the terrorists bombed the road between Bannu Cantt’s wall and the supply depot at approximately 4:40 am. The attackers, traveling in a vehicle, detonated an improvised explosive device (IED). Injured individuals were promptly transported to the district headquarters hospital for medical treatment.

Sources revealed that the terrorists attempted to breach the Cantt but were intercepted by security forces who took swift action to corner the militants. Following the attack, a clearance operation was initiated in the area to ensure security.

This incident occurs amidst a significant decline in violence and casualty rates across Pakistan in the second quarter of 2024, as reported by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) in its Annual Security Report.

The report indicates a 12% reduction in overall violence, with 380 fatalities recorded in Q2 compared to 432 in the first quarter of 2024. During this period, Pakistan experienced 380 violence-linked fatalities and 220 injuries among civilians, security personnel, and outlaws, resulting from 240 incidents of terror attacks and counter-terror operations. Among the fatalities, 236 were civilians and security forces personnel.
