No September 6 Holiday: Ministry clarifies

Islamabad: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a clarification regarding a fake notification circulating on social media, falsely claiming that September 6 will be a public holiday for Defence Day.

In a tweet posted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s Fact Checker account, the government warned against the dissemination of fake news, emphasizing that such actions are both unethical and illegal. “Disseminating Fake News is not only unethical and illegal but it is also a disservice to the nation. It is the responsibility of everyone to reject irresponsible behaviour,” the tweet stated.

Defence Day, commemorated annually on September 6, honors the bravery of Pakistan’s armed forces during the 1965 war. While it was previously observed as a public holiday across the country, the federal government discontinued the holiday at the national level in 1998. The last time Defence Day was observed as a public holiday was in 1997.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has urged citizens to verify information through official channels and avoid spreading misinformation, which can cause unnecessary confusion and disrupt the nation.
