Pakistan Ready for Dialogue with India, Says PM Shehbaz in Tehran

Tehran: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to engage in dialogue with India, including on the longstanding Kashmir dispute, in a bid to promote peace and stability in South Asia.

“We want peace… we are ready to engage in dialogue for the resolution of all disputes, including the issue of Kashmir,” the premier said during a joint press conference with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran.

The statement came as the prime minister continues his four-nation tour to express gratitude to friendly countries for their support during Pakistan’s recent conflict with India. Prior to Tehran, he visited Turkiye.

Upon arrival in Tehran, PM Shehbaz was received by Iran’s Interior Minister and Ambassador to Pakistan. A guard of honour was presented by the Iranian armed forces.

The prime minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation including Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Ministers Mohsin Naqvi and Attaullah Tarar, and SAPM Tariq Fatemi.

During the press briefing, PM Shehbaz emphasized Pakistan’s peaceful intentions but warned that any aggression would be met with a strong response. He praised the armed forces’ bravery during the recent hostilities with India.

The premier also highlighted Pakistan’s interest in regional cooperation on issues such as water sharing, counter-terrorism, and economic collaboration.

“I had a productive and useful meeting with President Pezeshkian,” PM Shehbaz said. “There was complete agreement on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, and other key areas.”

He expressed Pakistan’s support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to mutual cooperation.

President Pezeshkian welcomed the Pakistani delegation warmly and described Pakistan as a key neighbour with deep-rooted ties. He underlined the importance of securing the shared border against terrorist and criminal elements.

“Peace and stability in Pakistan is in the interest of Iran,” said the Iranian president, stressing the need for dialogue between regional nations and positive engagement with international partners.

He also welcomed the ceasefire between Pakistan and India and supported resolving issues through diplomacy.

Both leaders underscored the importance of stronger bilateral relations, unity in platforms such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and sustained efforts toward regional harmony.
