Pakistan strengthens Blue Economy vision with global participation at PIMEC-25

Karachi: The Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference 2025 (PIMEC-25) concluded successfully in Karachi, marking the end of a four-day premier maritime gathering held from November 3 to 6. The second edition of the event, organized under the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, served as a dynamic platform for strategic dialogue, academic exchange, and commercial collaboration — reaffirming Pakistan’s vision of developing a strong and sustainable Blue Economy.

The closing ceremony was graced by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, who announced the establishment of Pakistan’s first Green Ship Repair and Recycling Yard at Port Qasim. Highlighting Pakistan’s long-term vision for its “Maritime Century (2047–2147),” the Minister outlined five key development pillars: the construction of three new deep-sea ports, expansion of the national shipping fleet, establishment of AI-enabled maritime industrial complexes, transformation to 100% green digital ports, and regional maritime leadership.

Earlier, Commander Karachi Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi extended appreciation to all delegates, maritime experts, and exhibitors for their active participation. He emphasized that PIMEC had evolved into an ideal platform for exchanging ideas and building partnerships to secure a prosperous maritime future. He also lauded the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) for successfully organizing the International Maritime Conference on the theme “Harnessing Blue Economy Potential for Sustainable Development.”

A key highlight of PIMEC-25 was the signing of 83 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs. 76 billion between national and international exhibitors across various maritime sectors. These agreements underscore Pakistan’s growing commitment to fostering global partnerships, promoting technology transfer, enhancing capacity building, and unlocking new investment opportunities in its maritime domain.

PIMEC-25 witnessed robust international participation, featuring 178 exhibitors, including 28 international firms and 150 local organizations, who showcased cutting-edge maritime innovations, technologies, and services. The event also hosted 133 international delegations from 44 countries across Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East — reflecting the expo’s rising stature as a premier maritime event in the region.

The successful conclusion of PIMEC-25 reaffirmed Pakistan’s potential as an emerging maritime hub and highlighted its expanding role in shaping the regional Blue Economy landscape.
