The Ministry of Information Technology has finalized the initial draft of the Cybersecurity Act and forwarded it to stakeholders for consultation, according to an official document.
The ministry has also decided to establish a National Cybersecurity Authority at the federal level to recommend and enforce cybersecurity measures for critical national infrastructure across the country.
The document states that the National Cybersecurity Policy provides a comprehensive framework for nationwide digital protection and is being implemented under the Digital Economy Enhancement Program.
Progress has been made on the Secure Data Exchange Layer and digital identity projects. Data systems of NADRA, FBR, and the telecom sector have been declared part of critical digital infrastructure, while the process to declare Immigration and Passports systems as critical infrastructure is also underway.

Protecting information systems of key national institutions remains a top government priority.
Until the formal establishment of the National Cybersecurity Authority, the CERT Council will continue to function. The council comprises 14 public and private sector organizations and is working to strengthen coordination and response mechanisms against cyberattacks.
Meanwhile, work is also ongoing on the Pakistan Information Security Framework 2025.
