Dubai: Dubai’s General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA Dubai) celebrated International Volunteer Day on 5 December with a ceremony recognizing partner entities and outstanding employee volunteers whose contributions strengthened community initiatives throughout the year.

The event highlighted the UAE’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian values and social responsibility, echoing GDRFA Dubai’s strategy of making volunteerism an integral part of government and community life.
The ceremony was attended by H.E. Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of the Community Development Authority in Dubai; H.E. Lt. General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai; and senior officials from both institutions. GDRFA Dubai honored the Community Development Authority as its strategic partner, along with representatives from the “Nabd Al Emarat” and “Thank You for Your Giving” volunteer teams for their role in supporting joint initiatives.

A number of GDRFA employees were also recognized for their exceptional engagement in humanitarian programs. The Identity and Citizenship Affairs Sector received special acknowledgment as the most active sector in volunteer activities.

Speaking at the event, H.E. Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid noted that Dubai has made significant progress in cultivating a strong culture of volunteerism, which she described as a key social asset that strengthens family cohesion, enhances community solidarity and supports overall well-being. She emphasized that volunteering not only benefits society but also helps individuals develop leadership, mental resilience and professional skills.

H.E. Lt. General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri reaffirmed that humanitarian work is deeply rooted in the UAE’s values and forms a core part of GDRFA Dubai’s institutional identity. He stressed that volunteerism is “a way of life,” essential to work quality, team spirit and public service. He praised partners and volunteers for their consistent support and positive role in the success of community-driven initiatives.

The event reaffirmed the UAE’s leading role in promoting humanitarian values and volunteerism, with GDRFA Dubai reiterating its commitment to expanding community participation and advancing initiatives that reflect Dubai’s spirit of generosity, openness and collective responsibility.
