Passport Directorate issues over 5.5 million passports in 2025, backlog eliminated

DG Immigration & Passports report highlights 24/7 services, e-passports, and major institutional reforms

Islamabad: The Directorate General of Immigration & Passports has released its Annual Performance Report for 2025, outlining major reforms and service delivery improvements carried out under the directives of the prime minister and the federal interior minister.

According to the report, 2025 marked a landmark year for the department under the leadership of Director General Passports Mustafa Jamal Kazi, with the installation of modern passport printing machines permanently eliminating the longstanding passport backlog. For the first time in the department’s history, 24/7 passport processing and delivery services were launched.

The report said renovation and upgradation of the Passport Headquarters and regional passport offices were completed, while additional passport offices and service counters were established across the country. To facilitate overseas Pakistanis, one-window services were introduced at Pakistani embassies in several countries.

A new e-passport booklet equipped with advanced security features was also launched to enhance document security and ensure international compliance. The department further introduced an integrated digital system for applications, passport printing, and performance monitoring, along with a modern dashboard for overseas and online applicants to improve transparency and efficiency.

During 2025, a total of 5,572,013 passports were issued, including 3,275,263 machine-readable passports under the normal category, 1,839,487 under the urgent category, and 276,789 through the fast-track service. Demand for e-passports continued to rise, with 116,549 issued under the normal category and 63,924 under the urgent category.

The demographic overview showed 8,785,266 applicants above 60 years of age, 45,758,743 applicants between 30 and 60 years, 8,835,629 applicants up to 18 years of age, and 21,487,678 female applicants.

Director General Passports Mustafa Jamal Kazi said all possible measures were taken during 2025 to ensure maximum facilitation for citizens, adding that modern printing and processing systems enabled the fastest passport issuance in the department’s history for both walk-in and online applicants.
