Federal Constabulary to be deployed in Balochistan in phases

QUETTA: The federal and provincial governments have decided to deploy the Federal Constabulary in Balochistan in phases to strengthen law and order in the province.

The decision was taken during a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta, jointly chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.

According to a statement issued by the CM’s Secretariat, two wings of the force will initially be deployed, with plans to eventually station around 3,000 personnel in sensitive areas to reinforce security.

The Federal Constabulary, formerly known as the Frontier Constabulary, was restructured last year under the Frontier Constabulary (Re-organisation) Ordinance 2025.

The force continues to operate under the federal government while providing security and administrative support across Pakistan when required.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the overall security situation and discussed key issues including the repatriation of Afghan refugees, elimination of hawala and hundi networks, and efforts to curb extortion and smuggling.

Senior officials from institutions including the National Database and Registration Authority, Federal Investigation Agency and National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency briefed participants on ongoing initiatives to counter illegal activities and improve institutional capacity.

The meeting also agreed to strengthen the Federal Investigation Agency by filling vacant positions with local recruits to improve operational effectiveness at the grassroots level.

Both governments decided to intensify monitoring of anti-state activities on social media and accelerate legal action against individuals spreading propaganda or misleading the public.

Interior Minister Naqvi assured full federal support in combating terrorism and pledged assistance in enhancing the professional capacity of the Balochistan police through modern training and resources.

Chief Minister Bugti said the provincial government was taking firm steps to eliminate terrorism and restore order, stressing that ensuring the writ of the state was non-negotiable.

The meeting was attended by provincial lawmaker Mir Zia Langove, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Hamza Shafqaat and Inspector General of Police Muhammad Tahir Khan.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Naqvi and Bugti reaffirmed that the federal and provincial governments would continue coordinated efforts to ensure lasting peace, strengthen state authority and safeguard citizens’ lives and property in the province.
