PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday confirmed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan held a meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to discuss the worsening security situation in the province.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram, speaking to Geo News, said the meeting focused primarily on terrorism-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with particular attention on the Bannu region following recent clashes between law enforcement agencies and militants.
According to Akram, the interior minister and PTI leaders discussed ways to improve coordination between federal and provincial authorities to better respond to rising security threats. He added that the conversation remained limited to law and order issues and did not include political matters.
The clarification came amid conflicting claims on social media regarding the participants of the meeting. Akram rejected reports suggesting that Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, was present, stating that only Sohail Afridi and Barrister Gohar attended the meeting.
He further confirmed that the meeting was held at Barrister Gohar’s residence and was convened specifically to review the recent surge in terrorist incidents, particularly in Bannu, where a deadly confrontation reportedly resulted in casualties among both security personnel and militants.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also later stated on social media that the discussion was strictly focused on law and order issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and that no political agenda was part of the engagement.
The development comes as PTI continues to press for improved security arrangements in the province and seeks stronger coordination with federal authorities amid ongoing militant activity in the region.
