Three Rangers martyred as attack on Karachi camp foiled

KARACHI: Three Pakistan Rangers personnel embraced martyrdom and four others were injured after militants belonging to Jamaat-ul-Ahrar launched a coordinated attack on a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) camp in Karachi, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the attackers first detonated an explosive device at the main gate of the camp before attempting to breach the perimeter.

The ISPR said Rangers personnel responded swiftly and foiled the assault, killing three militants while capturing another attacker, identified as an injured Afghan national.

Describing the incident as a “cowardly terrorist attack,” the military said the assailants were Khwarij affiliated with Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, which it described as an India-backed proxy organisation.

Following the attack, security forces launched sanitisation operations in the surrounding area to clear any remaining militants.

The ISPR said security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue their counterterrorism campaign under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam” to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

“Pakistan shall undertake retribution operations against the perpetrators of this attack to avenge the martyrdom of its soldiers,” the statement said.

Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir expressed condolences to the families of the martyred Rangers personnel, saying their sacrifices further strengthened the nation’s resolve to defend Pakistan against terrorism.

The incident was initially reported near Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 6, where an explosion followed by heavy gunfire prompted an immediate response from police and other law enforcement agencies.

Authorities closed roads linking Mosmiyat Chowrangi to Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 6, Kamran Chowrangi and Chaman Iqbal Colony as security forces secured the area.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah sought a detailed report from the Inspector General of Police and the Karachi Additional Inspector General, while Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar also directed the Karachi police chief to submit an immediate report on the attack.
