WEB DESK: Bahrain has strongly condemned an attack by the Iran-backed Houthi militia on a Saudi-operated vessel in the Red Sea, describing it as a violation of international law and a serious threat to maritime security and global trade.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the attack caused a fire on the bow of the vessel, which is operated by a Saudi company. No casualties were reported in the incident.
In a statement, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs termed the attack a “blatant violation” of international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, warning that such actions endanger freedom of navigation, global commerce and international energy supplies.
The ministry reaffirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and expressed support for all measures taken by Riyadh to safeguard its sovereignty, national security and strategic interests.
Bahrain also called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to take effective action against such attacks, strengthen maritime security in key waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandeb, and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
