ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase of Rs0.75 per unit in electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for June, according to a notification issued on Friday.
The increase will apply to electricity consumers across Pakistan, including those served by K-Electric, and will be recovered through electricity bills issued in August.
The approved increase is lower than the Rs1.20 per unit adjustment requested by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), which had sought the revision on the basis of changes in fuel costs during June.
NEPRA had reserved its verdict after conducting a public hearing on the CPPA’s petition. Following scrutiny and verification of the submitted data, the regulator approved a fuel cost adjustment of Rs0.75 per unit and issued the formal notification.
According to the notification, the revised tariff will not apply to lifeline consumers, prepaid electricity users or electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, all of which have been exempted from the adjustment.
The monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism allows electricity tariffs to be revised periodically in accordance with fluctuations in international fuel prices and changes in the country’s power generation mix.
