ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has reiterated its demand that party founder Imran Khan be shifted to a hospital for proper medical treatment in consultation with his doctors and family.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said the party had repeatedly called for Imran Khan to be transferred to a hospital, stressing that receiving medical treatment was his fundamental right.
Gohar said it had previously been acknowledged before the Supreme Court that Imran Khan’s blood pressure had risen and that he was taking medication. However, he said the party had not received any information from an independent source regarding the former prime minister’s current health condition.
The PTI chairman’s press conference came hours after Adiala jail authorities submitted a report to the Supreme Court regarding Imran Khan’s health and meetings with him.
According to the jail report, Imran Khan had received treatment from leading ophthalmologists in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for an eye condition, with one of his eyes having almost returned to normal.
The report also stated that Imran Khan and his wife had been meeting every Tuesday under jail rules, with 84 meetings held so far.
It further said lawyer Salman Safdar had met the former prime minister on February 10 and April 4, 2026.
Gohar rejected any suggestion that the PTI was politicising Imran Khan’s health.
“We have repeatedly said that we do not politicise the health of the PTI founder,” he said.
He also demanded that Imran Khan’s family members and personal doctors be given access to him, claiming that meetings with the former prime minister had been stopped for several months.
Gohar said Aleema Khan and Imran Khan’s other sisters had the right to meet him.
“There is nowhere written that they cannot speak outside after meeting him,” he said.
Calling on the authorities to “stop this game of cat and mouse”, the PTI chairman demanded that access to Imran Khan be restored, claiming that his access to family members and others had been blocked since last October.
KP CM voices concern over Imran’s health
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also expressed concern over Imran Khan’s health, saying a “worrying” report regarding his condition had emerged.
Afridi said he would hold a detailed meeting with Imran Khan’s personal doctor and announce the party’s course of action after consulting him.
He claimed that Imran Khan’s blood pressure had previously remained normal whenever doctors Faisal and Asim examined him.
However, Afridi said the latest report indicated that Imran Khan’s blood pressure was not normal.
“If the official report says Imran Khan’s blood pressure was 140/100, then what would it actually be?” Afridi questioned.
He added that Imran Khan had never previously suffered from a blood-pressure problem.
