PM Shehbaz forms 11-member committee to monitor governance in KP

Ishaq Dar appointed convener as panel reviews law and order, administrative affairs and public relief following imposition of governor’s rule

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted an 11-member monitoring committee to oversee governance, law and order and day-to-day administrative affairs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule, sources said on Monday.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has been appointed the committee’s convener. Its members include Rana Sanaullah, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Amir Muqam, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, according to the sources.

Representatives of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) will also be included in the committee, they added.

The monitoring committee is separate from the 11-member technocratic advisory council formed after governor’s rule was imposed in the province on October 11.

The advisory council, headed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, is tasked with assisting him in running provincial government affairs on behalf of the federal government.

Prime Minister Shehbaz chaired the monitoring committee’s first meeting on Monday, during which participants reviewed the situation in the province and discussed measures to address law and order concerns and provide relief to the public, the sources said.

The committee is expected to oversee governance and administrative matters as the federal government manages provincial affairs under the emergency arrangement.
