Adiala Jail Authorities Deny Imran Khan Death Rumours

PTI Demands Family Visitation Rights for Former Prime Minister

Rawalpindi: Adiala Jail authorities on Wednesday rejected viral claims that former prime minister Imran Khan had died or been secretly shifted from prison, confirming that he is alive and remains in their custody.

The clarification came after unverified reports, largely circulated by India-linked websites and social media accounts, alleged that Khan’s health had deteriorated and authorities were concealing his death. The rumours triggered widespread concern among PTI supporters and the general public.

In an official statement, senior prison officials said Imran Khan was in good health and undergoing routine medical check-ups as per jail rules. “He is fully healthy and receiving complete medical attention,” the statement said, adding that no unusual medical or security situation existed.

However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf spokesperson Syed Zulfiqar Bukhari criticised the administration, saying the core issue was the continued denial of family visits. He claimed that Khan had been kept in isolation for six weeks in violation of court orders.

Bukhari also alleged that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister was turned away seven times when he attempted to meet Khan, while his sisters were again present outside the jail on Wednesday demanding access.
“Family visitation is a legal right, not a concession,” he said.

Prison authorities rejected the claims of solitary confinement, stating that all meetings are conducted according to jail security protocols and no exceptional restrictions have been imposed.

Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023 following convictions in multiple cases, which he and his party strongly contest. His detention has remained a focal point of political tension and legal debate in the country.
