All political parties will have 54 days for election campaign: Solangi

Islamabad: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information, Murtaza Solangi, revealed that all political parties in Pakistan will be granted a 54-day window for election campaigns, in accordance with the provisions of the Election Act 2017. Minister Solangi made this announcement during a press conference held in Islamabad on Thursday, alongside Caretaker Federal Minister for Privatization, Fawad Hassan Fawad.

The decision to allocate 54 days for election campaigns aims to ensure that political parties have ample time to reach out to voters and convey their respective agendas before the upcoming general elections. This move is in line with efforts to uphold the democratic process and facilitate fair and transparent elections in Pakistan.

Simultaneously, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on the same day that the general elections are scheduled to take place in the final week of January 2024. This timeline provides clear direction for political parties and candidates to prepare for the crucial electoral process.

The ECP also disclosed that the initial list of delimitations, which is being carried out in accordance with the latest census data, will be officially published on September 27. This step marks a pivotal moment in the electoral preparations, as constituency boundaries are crucial for the fair representation of voters.

Moreover, the ECP outlined that the final list of constituencies will be published on November 30. This will follow a thorough review process, which includes hearing objections and considering suggestions related to the delimitations. Ensuring the accuracy and fairness of constituency boundaries is paramount to conducting transparent and representative elections.

These announcements signify significant progress in the preparations for the upcoming general elections, emphasizing the commitment of the caretaker government and the Election Commission of Pakistan to uphold the principles of democracy and provide a level playing field for all political parties.
