Dubai: Ambassador of Pakistan to UAE, Mr. Faisal Niaz Tirmizi presented his credentials as the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) at IRENA headquarters in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. The letter of credentials was received by Mr. Francesco La Camera, Director General IRENA.
During the presentation of credentials ceremony, Ambassador Tirmizi reiterated Pakistan’s full support to meet the objectives and initiatives of Irena stating that mainstreaming renewable energy remains a priority for Pakistan.
Ambassador Tirmizi said that the Government of Pakistan focus is on diversifying energy resources, which include hydropower, natural gas, coal and nuclear energy, besides the renewables such as solar, wind and biomass energy to meet the growing energy demands of the country.
The intergovernmental body enhances dialogue and collaboration among the Agency’s Members and its Secretariat on initiatives and activities undertaken by the Agency and its partnerships to support countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future.
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is a lead global intergovernmental agency for energy transformation that serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, supports countries in their energy transitions, and provides state of the art data and analyses on technology, innovation, policy, finance and investment.
IRENA’s membership comprises 167 countries. Together, they decide on the Agency’s strategic direction and programme activities, in line with the global energy discourse and priorities to accelerate the deployment of renewables-based energy transitions worldwide.
