Ambassador Tirmizi highlights Pakistan’s Vision for Economic Integration

Dubai: TRENDS Research and Advisory hosted a high-level panel discussion today under the theme “Pakistan’s Vision for Future Economic Integration with Central and South Asia” at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, drawing participation from diplomats, regional experts, and policy analysts.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing Pakistan’s strategic geographic location as a natural bridge connecting South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing regional connectivity through major infrastructure and energy initiatives such as CASA-1000, TAPI, and through active engagement with multilateral platforms like the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

“Peaceful coexistence and economic interdependence remain central to Pakistan’s foreign policy,” said Ambassador Tirmizi, adding that Pakistan envisions becoming a regional trade and transit hub, leveraging projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to enhance prosperity across the region. He also outlined Pakistan’s national priorities, highlighting efforts to empower youth and women as drivers of inclusive and sustainable growth.

During the Q&A session, Ambassador Tirmizi addressed regional security challenges, noting that Pakistan has been one of the biggest victims of terrorism. He urged caution against unfounded accusations and emphasized the importance of evidence-based diplomacy. “Blame games solve nothing,” he remarked.

Commenting on the Indus Waters Treaty, he asserted it is an internationally binding agreement that cannot be suspended unilaterally. On Afghanistan, he acknowledged the humanitarian and security challenges, stressing that stability in Afghanistan is vital for peace across the wider region.

Addressing broader geopolitical dynamics, Ambassador Tirmizi stated that Pakistan maintains historic ties with China and a long-standing partnership with the United States, and supports constructive engagement between both powers to ensure global peace and economic stability.

Reflecting on Pakistan-UAE relations, the Ambassador highlighted the deep and enduring bilateral ties, praising the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan for laying the foundation of this brotherly relationship. He also emphasized the strong potential for economic collaboration between Pakistan’s human and natural resources and the investment strength of the Gulf region.

The event concluded with a consensus on the importance of dialogue, connectivity, and cooperative frameworks to drive regional peace and shared prosperity.
