Islamabad: The Federal Apex Committee of the National Action Plan approved a comprehensive military operation against terrorist organizations active in Balochistan, including the Majeed Brigade, Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), and Baloch Raaji Ajoi Sangar (BRAS). The decision aims to combat groups targeting innocent citizens and foreign nationals, creating insecurity to hinder Pakistan’s economic development.
The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, included Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, federal ministers, provincial chief ministers, and senior officials. Discussions focused on revitalizing counter-terrorism efforts and addressing the evolving security landscape. Participants were briefed on national law and order, efforts to tackle terrorism, and challenges such as hyper-nationalism, religious extremism, and illegal activities.
The committee emphasized the need for a unified political narrative and consensus to effectively combat terrorism. It highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among federal and provincial governments, institutions, and ministries. Integration of political, diplomatic, intelligence, and military strategies was stressed as a key approach.
District Coordination Committees under Provincial Apex Committees were established to ensure compliance with directives from federal and provincial governments. Additionally, the revival of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and the establishment of national and provincial intelligence fusion centers were approved.
Prime Minister Sharif urged all stakeholders to implement measures promptly to maintain peace and stability. COAS General Munir reiterated the military’s commitment to supporting government efforts to safeguard national security and ensure stability.
