Pakistan’s star javelin thrower and Olympian Arshad Nadeem has set his sights firmly on gold as he prepares for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championship, marking his first major outing since the Tokyo Olympics.
Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Nadeem revealed that he has undergone five months of intensive training to gear up for the event. “This is my first big competition after the Olympics. I’ve been working hard and I’m fully focused on delivering my best,” he said.
The national record-holder, known for his historic performances, emphasized that his primary competition lies within. “My contest is always with Arshad Nadeem. I just want to perform at my best. Whenever I give my best in an event, I find myself in a position to win gold,” he added.
With a firm eye on long-term goals, Nadeem is aiming high — targeting gold not just at the Asian Championship but also at the World Championships, Asian Games, and the prestigious Diamond League series. “These are the medals I’m chasing now,” he declared.

Looking even further ahead, the 28-year-old confirmed his commitment to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, stating that the entire year leading up to the Games will be dedicated to Olympic preparation.
Arshad’s coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, voiced full confidence in his athlete’s current form and mental readiness. “His preparation is on point. He is once again determined to deliver a strong performance,” said Butt.
He added that while external expectations are inevitable, they don’t distract the team. “We don’t need to prove anything. For us, this is just another event. Pressure is actually a good thing — without it, you can’t perform.”
In the lead-up to the Asian Athletics Championship scheduled for September, Nadeem is expected to compete in two to three international events, ensuring he remains in top form.
With his eyes fixed on the podium and a clear roadmap ahead, Arshad Nadeem is once again ready to carry Pakistan’s hopes on the global athletics stage.
