ATC Suspends Arrest Warrants Against CM Gandapur

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has suspended the non-bailable arrest warrants issued against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a case registered at the Hassan Abdal Police Station.

The decision was made on Thursday following a request from Gandapur’s lawyer, Muhammad Faisal Malik, who presented an order from the Peshawar High Court granting bail to the chief minister in all cases. After reviewing the submission, the ATC suspended the warrants and annulled proceedings to declare Gandapur a proclaimed offender.

Last month, the same ATC had issued arrest warrants for CM Gandapur and other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in connection with the attack on the army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) during the May 9 protests of last year.

The protests erupted nationwide after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in a £190 million settlement case. Violent demonstrations targeted civil and military installations, including Jinnah House and the GHQ in Rawalpindi.

The military labeled May 9 as “Black Day” and announced plans to try those involved in the violence under the Army Act. Hundreds of PTI workers and leaders were detained following the riots.
