Ban on Visits to Adiala Jail Amid Security Concerns

Amid growing security apprehensions regarding potential terrorist threats targeting Adiala Jail, the Punjab Home Department has taken decisive action by imposing a two-week ban on visits and meetings with prisoners, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

Official sources revealed that the decision to enforce meeting restrictions follows intelligence reports highlighting imminent risks, compelling the Punjab Home Department to take proactive measures. The ban encompasses all inmates, including those affiliated with PTI, currently held at Adiala Jail.

In addition to the visitation ban, authorities have announced plans for a comprehensive search operation within the premises of Adiala Jail. A formal directive outlining the meeting restrictions has been dispatched to the Inspector General of Punjab Prisons.

The imposed limitations, as articulated in the directive, are applicable to all prisoners, irrespective of their affiliations, including Imran Khan. Other prominent PTI figures such as Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pervez Elahi, and former Minister Fawad Chaudhry are also among the detainees affected by the ban.

Concurrently, law enforcement agencies have implemented restrictions on media coverage surrounding Adiala Jail. Ahead of a scheduled meeting involving the PTI founder, police have erected barriers in the parking vicinity adjacent to Gate No-5 of the facility.

To facilitate media coverage within regulated parameters, canopies have been set up at strategic points accommodating media cameras outside the jail premises. Furthermore, media teams have been instructed to maintain a distance of 2 kilometers from the jail compound, ensuring operational security measures are upheld.
