Pakistan has delivered a “strong demarche ” to Afghanistan following a deadly terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment, which resulted in the martyrdom of eight soldiers and injuries to several others. The attack, attributed to the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group based in Afghanistan, was condemned by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a stern statement today.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces successfully thwarted an attempted terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment on July 15. Despite the militants’ attempt to breach the facility, security personnel prevented their entry, leading the terrorists to detonate an explosive-laden vehicle at the cantonment’s perimeter wall.
According to Demarche, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Afghan embassy in Islamabad was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pakistan reiterated its demand for Afghanistan to thoroughly investigate the incident and take immediate, robust actions against the perpetrators, emphasizing the need to prevent such attacks from Afghan soil.
The Foreign Office highlighted that the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, along with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has been responsible for numerous attacks targeting civilians and law enforcement within Pakistan. Islamabad expressed serious concerns over the presence of such groups in Afghanistan, stressing that these incidents undermine bilateral relations between the neighboring nations.

Amid escalating violence, Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to combat terrorism and uphold its national security. The ISPR commended the swift and decisive action by security forces at Bannu Cantonment, which prevented a larger catastrophe and saved innocent lives.
The attack underscores the broader regional threat posed by terrorism, with Pakistan recently launching operation “Azm-e-Istehkam” to intensify its anti-terror efforts. The Security Studies Annual Report noted a significant number of fatalities and injuries due to terror-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, both bordering Afghanistan.
Pakistan continues to urge the Afghan Taliban administration to prevent its territory from being used as a safe haven by terrorist outfits targeting Pakistan. The ongoing security challenges highlight the critical need for collaborative efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region.
