Bilawal Invited to attend Trump’s Inauguration

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has been invited to attend the inauguration ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump on January 20 in a personal capacity, sources revealed on Wednesday.

Bilawal is expected to depart for Washington in the coming days to participate in the event. Alongside Bilawal, President-elect Trump has also extended invitations to Chinese President Xi Jinping and other global leaders to attend his inauguration in Washington.

It is noteworthy that PPP Co-chairman and current President Asif Ali Zardari had attended the pre-inauguration oath ceremony of then President-elect Trump in Washington, DC, in 2017. Zardari was accompanied by PPP leaders Rehman Malik (late) and Sherry Rehman during the event.

Following his decisive victory in the November 5 presidential election, Trump is set to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States during the inauguration ceremony at the Capitol next week.

Trump declared victory in the 2024 US presidential election, describing it as an “unprecedented and powerful mandate” while addressing supporters in Florida. “I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president,” Trump said, referencing his previous term and the controversies that followed his refusal to concede defeat in the 2020 election, which led to a violent insurrection at the US Capitol and his subsequent felony conviction.

The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for January 20, 2025, at the US Capitol building in Washington, DC, will mark the official commencement of Trump’s second term. The event is organized by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.

The proceedings will begin with a procession to the Capitol, where the vice president will first take the oath of office. Subsequently, the president will recite his oath of office and deliver an inaugural address outlining his vision and goals for the term.

Following the address, the outgoing president will make an honorary departure from the Capitol, succeeded by a signing ceremony where the new president will sign the first official actions of his administration. The inauguration concludes with the pass-in review, during which the president and vice president review military troops before leading a procession from the Capitol to the White House.
