The incident comes amid a surge in attacks in Pakistan’s border regions. Last month, a suicide bomber killed six worshippers, including Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani, at Darul Uloom Haqqani in Nowshera. Just this week, militants hijacked a train in Balochistan, leading to a deadly standoff that left at least 26 hostages and four security personnel dead.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged Afghanistan to prevent terrorist groups from using its soil for cross-border attacks. However, militant activity has been on the rise since the Taliban’s return to power in Kabul in 2021. Security forces in Pakistan continue operations to counter threats, but terrorism remains a significant challenge for the country.
