Bola Tinubu sworn in as Nigeria’s new president

Nigeria’s President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu was sworn into office Monday, against the backdrop of a fractured nation, an ailing economy and spiraling insecurity.

According to international media reports, 71-year-old President Tinubu took the oath of office at Eagle Square Avenue in the capital and pledged to revive the country’s economy and energy sector.

Speaking at the event, Tinubu said, “I promise that we will implement budget reforms to revive the economy without creating inflation and eradicate poverty.”

About 5,000 people participated in the swearing-in ceremony, including presidents of other countries, heads of state and governors, ministers, diplomats and officials of friendly countries.

He also promised to create jobs for the youth and involve more women in government affairs. On security, the new president announced plans to purchase more military weapons and other equipment and improve the welfare of security personnel.
