Islamabad: Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has been placed under house arrest at her residence in Bani Gala. The move comes in the aftermath of her conviction in the infamous Toshakhana case, as reported by Geo News on Wednesday evening.
Authorities have designated the Bani Gala residence as a “sub-jail,” acting on the request of Adiala jail superintendent, to confine the former first lady following the court’s verdict. Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were handed a 14-year jail term each by the accountability court’s Judge Muhammad Bashir. The case revolved around the illegal sale of state gifts.
In addition to the jail term, the court disqualified Imran Khan from holding public office for 10 years. A substantial fine of Rs1.57 billion, with 787 million imposed on each, was also levied on the couple. This verdict marks a significant legal setback for the former prime minister and his wife.
During the previous hearing, conducted at Adiala jail, the court recorded Bushra Bibi’s statement under Section 342. In response, Imran Khan vehemently defended his wife, asserting that she had no connection to the case and was unjustly being drawn into the controversy, leading to her humiliation.
