ISLAMABAD: A prominent businessman, Amir Awan, who was shot by armed robbers at a farmhouse in the federal capital on Sunday, has died from his injuries, police said on Monday.
According to police, the incident took place in a posh area of Islamabad, where the assailants entered the farmhouse after disarming security guards stationed at the gate.
Authorities said the victim was shot twice when he resisted the robbers during the incident. He was shifted to a hospital with gunshot wounds but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police officials stated that the suspects involved in the killing have been identified and arrests will be made soon.
The incident comes amid rising concerns over street crime in the capital. Last month, a group of women was allegedly assaulted and robbed near F-9 Park.
According to the first information report (FIR) registered at Margalla Police Station, the suspects intercepted the victims on February 23, physically assaulted them and snatched 10 tolas of gold jewellery and Rs2 million in cash before fleeing the scene.
Footage of the incident showed the assailants dragging the women by their hair and subjecting them to violence on the road, sparking public outrage.
