BEIJING: China has annexed strategic parts of Ladakh, intensifying the ongoing border tensions with India. According to reports from a foreign news agency, China has incorporated these areas into Hotan Prefecture, forming two new counties.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs formally protested against Beijing’s move on Friday, marking a significant escalation in the long-standing Himalayan border dispute between the two nations. This development follows the resumption of border talks between India and China after a five-year hiatus.
Defense experts have warned that the annexation could heighten tensions in the region. They suggest that China’s strategic moves are calculated and reflect its confidence in managing the potential fallout. The annexation is seen as a blow to India’s regional aspirations and may complicate India’s geopolitical landscape.
Experts also draw parallels between the situation in Ladakh and India’s actions in Kashmir, implying a reversal of circumstances for India.
