Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet has formally approved legal action against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Asad Umar, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and former Secretary to Prime Minister Azam Khan over the Cipher audio leaks.
According to details, the Cabinet has approved investigation and legal action by FIA on the audio leak related to ‘Diplomatic Cipher’. On September 30, the cabinet had formed a cabinet committee on Imran Khan’s cipher-related audio leak. The Cabinet Committee recommended legal action in its meeting held on October 1.
The recommendations of the Cabinet Committee were presented in summary form for the approval of the Cabinet, after which the Federal Cabinet approved the recommendations of the Cabinet Committee through ‘circulation’.
The cabinet committee has said in its recommendations that this is a matter of national security which has serious adverse effects on national interests, legal action is necessary, FIA should form a committee comprising senior officials.
The recommendations said that the FIA may also include officers and officials from intelligence agencies in the team, the FIA team to take action against the perpetrators as per the law.
