Climate change can be cause of food shortage in Pakistan: PM

Devastating floods have destroyed millions of acres of ready crops: Shahbaz Sharif

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that due to climate change, there is a fear of a shortage of nutritious food globally, which will also affect Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his message on the occasion of World Food Day said that the recent devastating floods have destroyed millions of acres of ready crops, an agricultural country like Pakistan will also have to import food items to compensate for this loss.

He said that today World Food Day highlights the importance of overall global initiatives to ensure the food security of different countries of the world. Natural disasters due to climate change and rising prices on the global market are threatening further global shortages of nutritious food, which is already in short supply.

The Prime Minister said that climate change has had a negative impact on our lives in many ways, due to which the increase in global poverty and hunger is at the forefront.
