Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has spearheaded a groundbreaking initiative to revolutionize healthcare across Punjab, approving the introduction of a field hospital and mobile medical units project alongside the overhaul of rural health centers (BHUs).
In a landmark decision during the 5th meeting on Health Reforms, CM Maryam Nawaz allocated Rs16 billion for the immediate upgrade of hospitals, signaling the government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing healthcare services.
The initiative will see the deployment of 32 field hospitals next month, extending vital medical services to underserved areas lacking basic healthcare facilities. These mobile medical units will provide essential services such as ultrasounds, laboratory tests, and initial medical check-ups, ensuring healthcare access reaches even the remotest corners of the province.
Moreover, 200 clinic on wheels units will cater to semi-urban and katchi abadies, offering doorstep healthcare services equipped with doctors, Lady Health Visitors (LHVs), and vaccination facilities.
CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized transparency in procurement processes and stressed the need for a constant presence of medical professionals in hospitals. Plans are also underway to establish state-of-the-art hospitals in every district and link children’s hospitals with the Children Medical University.
The meeting addressed staffing concerns, with plans to recruit skilled personnel through a merit-based process and enhance the training of nurses. Reforms in hospital management structures were also discussed to ensure efficient governance and accountability.
A search committee was formed for key appointments, including the Vice-Chancellor of Nishthar Medical University and CEOs of various hospitals.
The comprehensive briefing highlighted ongoing projects and outlined future endeavors, including the completion of major healthcare facilities by June 2026.
With these robust measures in place, Punjab’s healthcare system is poised for significant improvements, promising accessible and quality healthcare services for all residents.
