Rawalpindi: A local court on Monday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat in connection with a case alleging his involvement in illegal construction.
The case, lodged at Naseerabad Police Station, accuses Marwat of unauthorized construction on land near the Thallian Motorway Interchange without obtaining necessary permissions from the relevant authorities.
The judicial magistrate has directed the police to arrest Sher Afzal Marwat and produce him before the court on July 30. This court order comes amidst PTI’s accusations that the government is using various tactics to coerce PTI leaders into changing their allegiance following a Supreme Court verdict regarding reserved seats.
On Saturday, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan announced that his party had prepared a list of MNAs, including Marwat, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s decision on the reserved seats case. Speaking to journalists in Adiala jail, Khan stated that these lists would be submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan within 15 days.

Seeking intervention from the top court to resolve the matter, Gohar highlighted that parliamentary members of his party were being forced to switch their loyalties. He condemned the “abduction” of PTI officials and their family members, naming individuals such as MNA Sahibzada Ameer Sultan, PTI media wing member Rizwan Malik, and others.
In a major legal victory for the PTI, the Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the party is eligible for the allocation of reserved seats. This decision not only paves the way for PTI’s return to parliament, after being excluded from the February 8 polls due to the Election Commission of Pakistan’s December 2023 ruling, but also increases pressure on the coalition alliance as the judgement will alter the composition of the National Assembly.
