Islamabad: In a significant move aimed at fortifying the nation’s cyber security, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has sanctioned Rs10 billion for the Digital Information Infrastructure Initiative. Chaired by the Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, and Economic Affairs, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the ECC convened to deliberate on pressing matters concerning national security and economic stability.
The allocated funds are earmarked for enhancing our digital infrastructure’s capabilities to proactively detect and mitigate potential cyber threats targeting critical national information systems. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s digital assets against emerging cyber risks and ensuring uninterrupted operations of essential services.
In addition to the cyber security initiative, the ECC also greenlit several proposals aimed at facilitating various sectors of the economy. These include the re-granting of the Sui Development and Production Lease, the revision of fees for fishery certificates under Pakistan Fish Inspection and Quality Control Rules, and the extension of the Farm Mechanisation Scheme as part of the Kissan Package.

Furthermore, the committee approved amendments to decisions concerning urea fertilizer requirements for the upcoming agricultural season and settled discussions regarding the upgradation of existing refineries under the Pakistan Oil Refining Policy 2023.
The ECC’s deliberations also encompassed crucial matters pertaining to the energy sector, with approvals granted for gas supply agreements and the allocation of condensate to refineries.
Overall, the ECC’s decisions reflect a concerted effort by the government to address pressing economic and security concerns, thereby fostering a conducive environment for sustained growth and development.
