ECP asks for 65 billion rupees to hold general polls

Islamabad: The Election Commission has informed the Ministry of Finance that funds of 65 billion rupees will be required to hold the general election.

An important meeting was held in the Election Commission regarding the general elections of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, in which a briefing was given to the Finance Secretary on behalf of the Election Commission.

The Election Commission said in the briefing that 65 billion rupees will be required immediately for holding the general election and 20 billion for the elections of the two provinces. So far only 5 billion has been given to the commission, another 15 billion funds are required in the current financial year.

The Finance Secretary gave a detailed briefing to the Election Commission on the overall economic situation of the country and said that it is difficult for the Finance Ministry to provide the required funds, I will give the final answer only after consulting the Federal Government.

On the other hand, according to the statement of the Election Commission, a briefing was given on the situation of law and order across the country. The Election Commission says that the governor will be consulted next week for the date of elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the statement, the Election Commission says that IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also give a briefing next week. A meeting is also being held with the officials of the Ministry of Defense to finalize the security arrangements.

The Election Commission said that 297,000 more personnel will be required from other law enforcement agencies in Punjab, and 56,000 additional personnel will be required from police and other law enforcement agencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
