LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s order of de-notifying 70 Members of the National Assembly belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The lawmakers of the previous ruling party had resigned from the National Assembly in April last year after Imran Khan was ousted as the prime minister through a no-confidence motion.
National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf accepted the resignations, which included that of Imran Khan’s close ally Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, earlier this year in two phases and the ECP followed that move by de-notifying the MNAs.
The de-notified members then challenged this decision in the Lahore High Court.
A single-member bench of the LHC headed by Justice Shahid Karim heard the PTI plea on Monday and issued notices to the ECP, the NA speaker and others, directing them to submit their responses by March 7.
