Lahore: The residence of former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar in Punjab’s capital faced a targeted attack late Wednesday night. The assailant, riding a motorbike, threw a cracker into the ex-judge’s residence, resulting in a powerful blast that shattered windows and caused extensive damage.
In the incident, two policemen got injured, who were on duty safeguarding the premises.
The cops who sustained injuries were identified as constables Amir and Khurram, a statement from the provincial police said.
While the windows of Nisar’s residence were shattered, fortunately, his family members escaped unharmed. Mian Asif, the former chief justice’s secretary, described the blast as of “severe intensity,” highlighting the potential danger posed by the assailant.
Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar has swiftly responded to the incident, demanding a comprehensive report and instructing officials to ensure the injured officers receive the best possible treatment. The police are investigating the attack from “all angles” to uncover the motives and apprehend those responsible.

Key law enforcement officials, including CCPO Lahore, DIG Operations Lahore, and SSP Operations, were actively present at the site of the attack, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Saqib Nisar, aged 65, retired as the 25th Chief Justice of Pakistan’s Supreme Court in January 2019.
During his tenure, he presided over high-profile civil and constitutional cases, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s legal landscape. The attack on his residence has raised concerns about the safety and security of prominent figures in Pakistan, prompting a thorough examination of potential threats and preventive measures.
