Ex-Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair quits PML-N

Karachi: Former Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair announced on Sunday that he is quitting the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) due to undisclosed “reservations.” Speaking to a private news channel, Muhammad Zubair  indicated that he would decide on his future political direction after consulting with his “friends.”

Zubair’s resignation adds to a growing list of prominent leaders who have recently left the ruling party, including former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and ex-finance minister Miftah Ismail.

The politician has been openly critical of the current government, which came into power following the February 8 elections. Zubair hinted at his dissatisfaction with the party leadership, stating he felt “like Abbasi” within the party, suggesting a shared sense of discontent.

In a notable instance, after former Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha alleged election result manipulation, Zubair called for the PML-N to “publicly accept defeat” and allow the country to move forward. Although Chatha later retracted his allegations, Zubair’s statement underscored his critical stance.

It remains uncertain whether Muhammad Zubair will join another political party. However, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had approached the Election Commission of Pakistan on April 8 to register a new political party. Miftah Ismail is also advocating for the creation of a new party comprised of individuals with “proven integrity and competence.”
