Family meets Kashmiri poet Ahmed Farhad at AJK police station

Muzaffarabad: Hours after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) was informed about the whereabouts of missing Kashmiri poet Ahmed Farhad, his family met him on Wednesday at a police station in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Earlier today, Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan informed IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani that the poet has been “arrested and is currently in police custody” in AJK. The AGP revealed this information during the hearing of a petition seeking the recovery of the poet.

Urooj Zainab, Farhad’s wife, who moved the IHC on May 15, sought her husband’s recovery and requested the court to identify, investigate, and prosecute those responsible for his disappearance.

Following the court hearing, the family of the missing poet met Farhad at Kahori police station, located outside Muzaffarabad. The poet’s brother spoke to reporters after the meeting, stating that Farhad’s condition was stable. “We will now fight a legal battle in AJK,” he said.

This development came after the family had complained about the lack of cooperation from the AJK police, who had not disclosed Farhad’s location.

Kashmiri poet Ahmed Farhad, known for his defiant prose, was allegedly abducted from his house on May 14. The court proceedings have brought a significant breakthrough, leading to the family’s reunion and a new phase in their legal struggle.
