Farah Gogi sends Rs5bn defamation notice to PML-N Leader

Islamabad: Farhat Shehzadi, also known as Farah Gogi and a close associate of former First Lady Bushra Bibi, has served a Rs5 billion defamation notice to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ata Tarar.

Gogi, represented by her legal counsel, contends that Tarar’s public accusations regarding her assets lack substantiating evidence. The legal notice strongly asserts that all of Farah Gogi’s assets were properly declared, and Ata Tarar’s claims are an attempt to smear her reputation.

Insisting on compensation, Farah Gogi demands Rs5 billion in damages for the harm caused by the unfounded allegations. The legal notice warns that failure to issue a formal apology and pay the damages will result in pursuing legal action against Tarar in a criminal court.

This move follows an earlier legal notice served by Farah Gogi to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Punjab Inspector General of Police, and the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) concerning the alleged leakage of her property details.

Expressing concerns over the unauthorized release of confidential documents related to ongoing investigations, Gogi questions how these documents reached PML-N leader Ata Tarar. She vehemently denies all allegations, emphasizing that her properties have been duly declared in her tax returns, and clarifies her non-involvement in politics, citing her belonging to a business family.

The legal notice further demands an examination of Ata Tarar’s phone records to trace the source of the leaked documents, adding another layer of complexity to this unfolding controversy.
