Fawad Chaudhry sent to jail on judicial remand

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry was on Monday sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand.

Fawad Chaudhry, who is facing sedition charges for publicly “threatening” the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), was presented before an Islamabad court on Monday at the end of his two-day physical remand.

The police requested the judicial magistrate for an extension in the PTI leader’s physical remand, but it was rejected. The court ordered that Fawad Chaudhry be sent to jail on judicial remand.

Two days earlier, the judicial magistrate had granted police two-day remand of Fawad Chaudhry and directed the authorities to produce him before the court at the expiry of the remand.

According to a news channel report, Fawad Chaudhry was produced before Judicial Magistrate Waqas Ahmed Raja’s court on Monday after the expiry of his two-day physical remand. He was supposed to be produced before the court at 11:30am but despite the judge’s direction, the prosecution team could not present him in court till 3:30pm.

Finally, when Fawad Chaudhry appeared before the court, the police again asked the judge to extend the physical remand.

The prosecutor said a photogrammetric test has been done but they want to recover Fawad Chauhdry’s mobile, laptop and other devices.

At the judge’s query, the official said that the photogrammetric test is conducted to confirm the identity of a person with voice and photo matching.
