Islamabad: The federal government has established a committee to convince Balochistan National Party (BNP) leader Akhtar Mengal to withdraw his resignation from the National Assembly. The decision was made on Wednesday under the direction of a high-ranking government official.
Mengal tendered his resignation yesterday, expressing his frustration with the current state of affairs in Balochistan and his inability to fulfill commitments to his constituents. He cited the government’s failure to address the ongoing violence in the province as a key reason for his decision.
Speaking on the issue, Akhtar Mengal called for unity among political leaders to address the problems facing Balochistan, stressing the need for collective action. “Everyone should come together on this issue, and a meeting should have been called to discuss it,” he said.

Mengal also voiced his disappointment over the lack of attention given to Balochistan in the National Assembly, stating that discussions on the province are often “blacked out.” He added, “Whenever you start talking about this issue, it is blacked out.”
Mengal was elected as a Member of the National Assembly from Khuzdar (NA-256) in the February 8 elections and previously served as an MNA in 2018. The federal government’s newly formed committee aims to address Mengal’s concerns and persuade him to reconsider his resignation.
