Field Marshal Asim Munir Addresses National Ulema‑Mashaikh Conference

Stresses Pakistan’s historic link with the State of Madinah, unity under scholarship, and state authority over jihad

Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir delivered a strongly worded address at the National Ulema‑Mashaikh Conference, highlighting Pakistan’s religious, historical, and strategic responsibilities. He said the State of Madinah and the State of Pakistan share a profound connection, calling their defence partnership “historic” and rooted in deep ties.

Field Marshal Munir stated that among all Muslim countries, Pakistan has been blessed with the honour of serving as protector of the Holy Sanctuaries — a privilege granted by God. He stressed that nations which abandon knowledge and scholarship fall into chaos, division, and disorder. According to him, dignity and strength are not achieved through division but through hard work, discipline, and the pursuit of knowledge.

Touching on regional security, he said terrorism is not Pakistan’s way but India’s, adding that Pakistan confronts its enemies openly and decisively. He made it clear that in an Islamic state, the authority to declare jihad rests solely with the state and no individual or group can claim this mandate.

Field Marshal Munir said victories in the struggle for truth were achieved through God’s support, and he urged religious scholars to keep the nation united and broaden people’s perspective. Concluding his address, he declared that Pakistan will always endure and prosper.
